Virtual Lughnasadh Ritual with Elizabeth Cunningham & Friends
August 1, 2020 @ 7:00 pm – 8:00 pm EDT
It’s been seven years since we last gathered in person at High Valley to drum, sing, feast, and turn the wheel of the year as a community. Nothing can take the place of in-person ritual, but we thought we’d experiment with creating online community. One advantage: people can join from anywhere in the world.
Lughnasadh, also known as Lammas (Loaf mass) celebrates the beginning of the harvest. It is, like so many rituals, a way to mark the great cycles of death, rebirth, and transformation. As the days grow shorter, the sun’s strength goes into the grain and fruit that nourishes us. At this High Valley-style ritual we’ll gather to drumming by David Budd and Karen Holtslag. Cait Johnson, Kathleen Mandeville, Debbie Stone and Tom Cowan will call the elements. Jack Maguire will tell a story. I’ll lead a guided meditation. Yes, there will be singing and chanting! Alas, we have discovered that it is impossible to coordinate group singing on Zoom, but on mute everyone can join in singing, dancing, and drumming at home.
